About us

This website has been produced by the Carers Information Network. We are a group of organisations working together to improve the health and wellbeing of carers in Northern Ireland by making it easier to get the information you need, when you need it.

The partners are

Carers Northern Ireland
Belfast Carers Centre
Northern Ireland Citizens Advice
North and West Belfast Health & Social Services Trust
South & East Belfast Health & Social Services Trust

To find out more about any of the partners, click on the links above.

What the Carers Information Network wants to do is improve access to information, rather than repeating work that has already been done. To find out about the help that is available on this site, click here.

We will also be producing a carers pack, including leaflets and other information from lots of organisations working in Northern Ireland. To order your free copy click here.

We will be running Carers Information Exchange Sessions, lasting two hours, throughout July and August. Check out What's New for details.

This website has been developed and maintained with support from DHSSPS.

Carers' Assessments

Carers Allowance

It is nearly always worth claiming Carers Allowance (formally Invalid Care Allowance) if you are entitled to do so, because even if you are not eligible for this allowance you could still receive an additional weekly £25.10 on your Income Support or the Minimum Income Guarantee payments. Or you might be able to pay considerably less on your rent or council tax. And if your circumstances or the benefit rules have changed you may now qualify for these benefits for the first time. Please do get advice on this from an independent specialist.
